Q: Should I hire a third party inspection previous to repairs being made on my home?

A: Absolutely. A third party inspector is an advocate for the homeowner.  Inspection reports are concise making the bidding process easier for all parties.

Q: How do I know if my home requires sealants?

A: The perimeter of all windows, doors and other penetrations require sealants.  The sealant should not be brittle to the touch and should have adequate contact with both surfaces in order to maintain proper adhesion. “Painter’s grade” caulking is not an adequate sealant.

Q: What is the purpose of a water diverter?

A: Water diverters (aka kickouts) are installed at gutter/wall junctions to insure proper irrigation into a gutter.

Q: How far should shrubs and/or foliage be from my stucco home?

A: Shrubbery and other foliage should be at least two to three feet from the cladding. Direct contact with the cladding cause premature deterioration of the system.

Q: How often should my home be painted?

A: While stucco does not require painting, once painted as a general rule, the home should be repainted every three to five years with a quality exterior paint.

Q: Why does my extermination company require me to have my stucco cut and sealed at the foundation level?

A: EIFS and hardcoat stucco both provide covered entry for termites. Termites can burrow through EIFS into the framing leaving “tunnels” for other pests to gain entry. Inproper lathing and substrate applications in hardcoat systems also provide entry for termites and other pests.

Q: If I elect to have repairs done on my home will the colors match on the repairs made?

A: All color matches are performed by machine and are made as close as possible. Even if the specific color or paint color is submitted at the project start a perfect match may still not be possible due to weathering and bleaching.
